Just added the final project to my links on the side, Enter the KOP zone (to the right). Check it out, it’s very funny. Sorry I couldn’t be in class these past weeks. I have been held up in Northern Cali. I’m going to have to email the professor just in case she forgot that we had spoken about this before. I had fun with my group and I hope everyone in our class has a great summer. Send me stuff and I’ll respond. – So I’ll be gone, ’till November…

Well I have been out of the bay area for a couple weeks now (that’s why I wasn’t in class) and the project was not as fun or as easy as I expected it to be. I believe if I hadn’t had any problems with the video earlier I would be making a much different comment. I also didn’t get as much time to make more changes on the video. If I was able to be in San Jose these past weeks I would’ve been able to work more with my group on that. I still think that the video is great. A little crazy, but very funny. I came up with the pictures and their captions and also stared and co-edited the video. My group is great to work with, but it’s hard to meet up since we are all very busy. But even with that said, I think we have done a great job. I hope everyone who gets to see our project enjoys it. I’m sorry to say that I will not be able to be there to present it. Overall, I have learned a lot from this class and I plan to make more videos now because this class has opened up my eyes to another form of expression. Have a great summer everyone! -Who’s house? I apologize for not making this post yesterday but I didn’t get much sleep last night or any night this week. These guys that I’m having to room with snore so very, very loud. I don’t know how much longer I can take eating this crappy food. Anyways, one of the media subjects that I want to talk about is the acceptance of violence on television. Here in America we are so desensitized when it comes to viewing blood and gore. But when a little bit of nudity shows up on t.v. we start calling and complaining to the FCC. I think that violence should be viewed like nudity. In Europe they have half-naked people in commercials and the kids there seem to grow up fine. Europeans actually think that American television is damaging due to the amount of violence we allow to broadcast. We should find a balance so everyone is pleased. But then again, that is an idea that can never come into play because humans will always refuse cooperation. Not everyone, but there’s always those “rebels” who want to stand out from the rest. Anyhow, I am not saying we should take these programs off the air because I too view these shows at my own leisure. I just think that we put too much emphasis on nudity. Next time you view a television program ask yourself, is this violent? Is this showing too much nudity? Which question will pop-up more? Let’s get the most out of all of our mediums. -I’m not a playa, I just crush a lot.

Well this is a late blog, but whatever! For this project I was expecting to be able to produce awesome work, but that will not be possible because I cannot retrive the video from the digital camcorder. No worries though, my group and I will be using a digital still camera to record. The quality will be affected, but the story line will still be funny. Working with a group can be fun, but we sometimes don’t agree with each other. What music to use, where to shoot film, who’s idea is funnier. I’m glad that all of us are open minded or else it could get messy. I like creating this project but the camera malfunction did a great deal against the time we have. Also, slower computers can be a real pain in the butt when trying to edit film and music. Anyways, I’ll write again about this in a week or so. Hopefully things will get smoother. -No worries, be happy.

I had opened this MySpace account some time ago. I remember using it for a little bit but then I started to lose interest. Back in the day it was “cool” if you had a MySpace page. Now it is looked at as something of the past. Almost everyone and their mom has an account. I was one of the few people that refused to get a MySpace page. Actually my friend is the one who started to make one for me and I couldn’t let him have control over my page due to the fact that I knew that he would put messed up postings and pictures about me or about anything. So I assumed the role of the editor of my page. Now I know I was supposed to start a new account in social media so I’m going to join Linkedin. Back to the MySpace page, I couldn’t remember my password so that took me a bit of time which I want to have back. But I realized that I will end up doing the same exact thing I had before. I will edit the page a little but then I will get bored with it soon. I should probably consider using other sites and ways of social media other than MySpace since my interest level is not up to par with it. Anyways, if you want to check out the page just go to: http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=37364546. -Uuuurrrrrr, interrrrnet.

I’m sure that many people have seen the amazing story of the man who has no legs that can run very fast. If not, then here is a little on it. Oscar Pistorius is a double-amputee said to be the “fastest man with on no legs”. He has placed in top 5 in many races including races with no other disabled people. Oscar seems to be one of the first people in the history of the Olympics that could compete even with a handicap as severe as his. But the IAAF have sent him to Germany for a number of tests and struck down his dream of entering the 2008 Summer Olympics. The prosthetic legs he is using is called “cheetahs”. Shaped similar to a cheetah’s legs they use springs to help propel him forward. So which is true? Do the cheetahs give Oscar the edge to be a better runner, or is Oscar just a natural phenom with the gift of speed? Looking at many other blogs I can see the support for Oscar growing. I personally think that more testing should be done so he can still have a chance to compete in this summer’s Olympics. I wonder if people are just worried about being beaten by someone who is handicap. Many of these athletes view themselves as superhuman at times. What will they begin to think if a man with no legs can run as fast or faster than themselves? Pride would be crushed and nobody likes when their pride is line. I am very impressed with Oscar’s drive. If I was in his place I would fight for my place in the Olympics as well. I hope some progress happens so we can see some history. Hey U.S.A., get us medals baby! To read about the story go to: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=466904&in_page_id=1770

I forgot to post last week (4/15) because I spent most of my time figuring out why I couldn’t edit my video. My group looked for converters and other programs that might at least play the video, but we have still had no success. I am open to any help. The format of the recordings are “avi”. I know that there has to be a program which can convert our video into “asf” or “mpeg”. I will continue to be sad if we cannot solve this problem. I do not want to have to re-film all of the scenes. If any person in McCune’s class has a suggestion please talk to myself or someone in my group. Another student in class has the same problem so I don’t feel that we’re the only ones. We have the same problem but used different ways to record our videos. I used the scan disk to record the video on and the other guy used the digital video cassette. Both of us have run into the same problem, so I believe it’s the camera. To sum up everything I have said: I NEED HELP CONVERTING THIS! Help a brother out. Thanks.

After looking at the site I have to say that I am impressed with those three guys. They may be on another continent, but they do a great job keeping basketball fanatics informed.
Question 2 answer: I do consider the news and information on hoopshype.com to be categorized as journalism. They are collecting data and publishing it, so I think that is a good reason. The style is very similar to traditional sports reporting. They give us stats and stories about players, coaches, owners, etc. You can say that past sports journalism was always big in the mainstream media via ESPN, Fox Sports Net, etc., but the Internet has the capability to be accessed from anywhere, which makes it a very powerful source of information, and a strong medium.
Question 3 answer: The success of Hoopshype.com will definitely change the future of sports journalism. I expect to see a similar form of sports reporting in other fields. Baseball, Football, Tennis, etc. The success of this site will inspire other people to take a sport that many love and give accurate and relative information so everyone can have more choices when it comes to getting sports statistics and news.
Comparison Exercise: Footballdiehards.com is a website dedicated to football stats and news. The set up is similar to that of hoopshype.com. The big difference between these sites is that the reporting is done by people here in the U.S.

I missed the opportunity to help protest when the flame passed through San Francisco (the only city of the United States where they ran through). I had to work, but now I realize that I should have taken that day off and joined the people of the Bay for the cause. Even though we may not support China’s ways, we can still make a statement by doing well in the Olympic games. People should let this situation get under their skin, just chill out and support the U.S. teams. Let’s get some gold baby! -We just, big pimpin’ spendin’ cheese…
